This forum is a place for autoworkers to refute some of the misconceptions that are rampant, especially at this point in history, while our country is in a major economic downturn.

1 Quality Focus on Wed Nov 26, 2008 10:06 pm

I keep reading about how GM does not build quality. How they don't care to build quality. How things are only changing since the credit crisis. This could not be further from the truth. In 1986, I transfered from St. Louis Truck and Bus to Fort Wayne Indiana. A brand new plant. From the start, the focus was on building quality. We had audit meetings that 'team members' attended. Trucks were 'audited' by employees trained to look for problems. The problems found were then pointed out, discussed, solutions discussed, and taken back to the teams. EVERYTHING was quality. And the hourly workers were mostly glad of it. See, we have realized for a long time that quality was our bread and butter. So, for at least the last 20 years, GM has actively and aggressively worked on quality. Did it happen overnight, surely not, but, if you do your research, you will see that we rank right up there with the best. And now, at a different plant, quality still is the focus.
