Haven't we already made concessions here? on Wed Nov 26, 2008 2:43 pm
Hmm, I keep reading about retirees paid health care. Seems to me that just a couple of years ago, it was announce that retirees would be required to pay MORE than they already were, in copays, pharmacy etc.
Seems to me I remember the active workers taking a vote, and voting to forgo $1.00 an hour in wages so that the burden would not be so great on the retirees? Doesn't sound like much does it. But lets see, a 40 hour week, so $40.oo a week from each employee, so in a plant with 2000 employees thats what, $80,000 a week, and at lets say 45 weeks a year,(don't want to argue the vacation and shutdown time), thats lets see, that's 3,600,000.00 per year from one plant. How many plants we talking about at 3.6 million that we, the active membership are essentially paying towards retiree healthcare?, Lets make it easy, 100,000(hourly employees) x$40 per week, X 45 weeks = $180,000,000+ per year in that concession alone. Now add to that, the other healthcare concessions we have given in the last 8 years, it seems pretty significant to me? How about you?
