Who I am and why I am starting this forum on Thu Nov 20, 2008 7:31 pm
I am a UAW member who works in Wentzville Missouri at the GM assembly plant that builds Chevy and GMC full size vans. I am currently, like the rest of the autoworkers visiting here, living in uncertain times. I have 26 years of credited service with GM, am 49 years old, and very worried about my future, and that of my family. I am watching as Congress decides my fate, and the public, in so many other forums, debates what should be done. What I find so very wrong, is all the misconception out there, we are lazy, we are overpaid, we have golden benefits and need to give something up. All the while these people are using outdated perceptions, facts, and numbers to make these decisions. I find it appalling also, that these politicians, and the media, and even the public, forget that I (we) am also your neighbor, your friend, your children and mine go to school together. It is forgotten that I (we) am also a taxpayer and voter. I (we) are the soccer coach, football coach, and baseball coach. I (We) am the volunteer that does so much good in the communities. Just like you. Our futures are tied together. So, I am setting this forum up, in hopes that many other autoworkers, like myself, can shed some light on some true facts, refute some of the falsehoods being told, and perhaps get some questions answered, IF we can get our leadership, and our government represetatives to participate. I also hold the hope, that reasonable people will read, and pay attention to the truths we will put here. So please, share this site with those others. Share this site with someone you hear spreading, or believing falsehoods. And most of all, hold out some hope for our future.
